TargetShooting Canada v2.0
Welcome to the new version of TargetShooting Canada. The first version was launched just over 19 years ago, on July 15th, 2001. I had been out of the shooting sports for several years and when I decided to come back, Olympic-style shooting wasn’t well represented on the Internet. I decided to get my thoughts online and give like-minded people a resource to help them pursue their hobby. There was a lot of activity on my part getting the site up and running, then slowly dwindled out to my last update on September 3rd, 2008. After a 12 year hiatus, I figured that it was time to give the site a much needed renovation.
A lot of things have happened since July 15th, 2001. In sport, I’ve been privileged to coach some great athletes in Canada, at the regional, provincial, national and international levels. I’ve worked with both juniors and seniors, civilian and military. I’ve coached at the Canada Winter Games, Canadian National Pistol Championships, CISM Military Shooting Championships, ISSF World Cups, CISM Military World Games, Pan American Games (Continental Championships) and finally, the Olympics. I’ve been a private coach, the Canadian CISM Pistol Coach and the Canadian National Coach. I’ve even had a stint as the Shooting Federation of Canada’s Vice-President of High Performance, managing the international program for all of our ISSF shooting disciplines. Simultaneously, I was a multi-sport coach instructor, teaching the National Coaching Certification Program to new coaches across all Olympic sports. So what?
Well, over 15 years, I had the opportunity to see a lot of things from different perspectives. I got outside of just aligning my sights and pulling a trigger. Alas, I decided that I had seen and done enough back in March 2017. Essentially, I stepped back from sport and decided to focus on important family matters. I am very proud to say that Avianna and I have a great little boy, who fills our house with energy and joy. We’re both very lucky.
Now, I have a bit more time (when the little one allows it). TargetShooting Canada has a legacy that I’m very proud of and decided to dust the old girl off and give it a make-over. The initial goal is to post the old content in a new wrapper. For the most part, it is sound information and will get beginners up and running. Some of the event descriptions are out of date, so reader beware.
As time allows, I’ll be re-writing some sections and adding entirely new content. I also have to rebuild all the video content. Past content has been retired (why did I encode in RealMedia format???) and new videos will be uploaded to a YouTube channel. Site layout and look will vary until I land upon something that I like.
So, that’s my story for now. I’m interested in hearing what you would like to see here. Please feel free to send me your thoughts and comments.
Take care.
Patrick
