: This is a new training method I have not heard/read of, dry firing in the dark? how does it work? what is the procedure? thanks.
Its an exercise to help you feel smooth trigger releases while in position. With reduced/non-existant visual stimuli, you are less distracted by sights and target.
First get setup in your position and establish your natural point of aim. Then, reduce or kill the lights. Start with low light without a target first or just close your eyes.
Focus on smooth delivery (external focus) and develop a feel for the technique. Do this for a few sessions, then try it with lights, then a target. Isolate the experience. At the end of it all, you'll have a better body sense, and should be alerted when something feels different from a quality shot.
