Steve - you make some very valid points, and they are points with which I cannot disagree. However there is a larger issue that I have to deal with in my life and that's prioritization of time and other valuable resources. As a fellow with a wife and three kids the decision of how travel dollars and vacation time is spent becomes a family decision based on an analysis of perceived value received for any given outlay of dollars or vacation days. This year, without national team selection criteria having been published, I simply was not in a position where I could justify attending nationals. I couldn't tell my family that attending would represent a good value proposition.

I'm fortunate in that I can sometimes rub shoulders with dedicated and proficient pistol shooters without having to invest a couple of thousand bucks and a week's worth of vacation. This year I'll have to content myself with doing so at more local matches, and with making my views known to the SFC (and not in a weak and silent manner either) such that we don't follow this same disastrous course again next year.

Given some of the recent circumstances you've encountered in the pistol sport, I respect your position and wish you an enjoyable and highly successful Nationals, Steve.

Mark.

: While I can appreciate the annoyance with the lack of a National Team Selection criteria ahead of time, I hardy think that is sufficient reason to avoid attending the Nationals. By not attending, you are sending a (weak and silent) message to the SFC. You are also not supporting the people who have gone to the trouble to host the matches in Prince Albert. They have done a magnificent job in the past, and there is no reason to expect it will be any less enjoyable this time. More importantly though, you are playing into the hands of those who would like to see interest in target shooting fizzle out as a sport. I'll bet those individuals would be ecstatic to think that such a simple thing would cause you to stay away. The Nationals should be a place to rub shoulders with those who really enjoy their sport, and those who are very proficient at it. That's what I'll be doing. Perhaps you should too!
